We often stop and think about water during times drought and flood, yet water is an integral part of our daily routine, wether it is cleaning, drinking, cooking and working. We use water for many things, it fulfils our wants and needs but it has suffered from excesses of our modern city. With the increased pressures on water like pollution and population growth it is important that the available fresh water for domestic use is used appropriately and not wasted.
Water wastage enforcement
Glenorchy City Council has affers employed to deal with breaches to water wastage under the water, sewer and drains by law.
Many times a water waster isn't even a ware that there is a problem so the officer's first priority is educate residents about saving water. If a continual breach occurs then a written warning is issued to the violator. After this stage, if the offence continues than an on the spot fine of $100 may be issued by and authorized officer.
Water Restrictions
Glenorchy City Council often introduce water Restrictions within it's boundaries during summer, as they are critical to protecting our water supply. Restrictions are introduced reduce outdoor water use, as outdoor watering accounts for more than 60% of the drinking water used in the and about 90% of the water used during the summer periode stage I. Water Restrictions are usually introduced in or around early December but this may vary due to the weather conditions.
