RADIO
The first radio broadcast to contain speech and music was made on 24 December 1906 in the United States. The Broadcast was given by the Canadian Inventor Reginald Fessenden. The first radio station began operating in New York in 1907. Radio Waves were discovered by the German scientist Heinrich Hertz in 1887. The Italian Inventor Guglielmo Marconi began experimenting with radio in 1894. He firts sent messages consisting of morse signals in 1895. In 1905 he succeeded in transmitting signals a cross the Atlantic Ocean.
Reginald Fessenden began experiments in sound radio broadcasting in 1990. In the firts broadcast of 1906, Fessenden talked, sang, recited and played the violin. The first radio station opened the following year. At first it only broadcast records of popular music.
TELEVISION
The first television picture was produced by the British Inventor John Logic Baird in 1924. It was a still picture of cross that the transmitted a distances of three meters. Baird's system isnot the electronic system the we use today. Electronic system was invented in 1927 by Philo Fansworth. Baird invented a mechanical system of television in which the picture was formed by spining disc. In 1925 Baird produced the first colour pictures. First television recording and first international transmission. However, the mechanical system gave a small, fuzzy picture. Electronic television was developed in the United States by engineer Vladimir Zworikyn during the 1930. It soon replaced the mechanical system. The first public television service of the kind we have today began in Britain in 1936.
